The Liverpool Cemetery
Is Liverpool Cemetery haunted? Yes! It's haunted by amazing stories about our community and the people who lived here. Join Claire Deloria and Dorianne Elitharp Gutierrez as they stroll through the cemetery and tell some of the stories of Liverpool's earliest settlers. Learn about how the willow trade came to our village and our most famous canal boat captain. This video is packed with stories: from tales of the Civil War to the poignant death of a young couple on the ice of Onondaga Lake. Claire Deloria taught social strudies at Liverpool High School for many years. In 1984 she was named the New York State Teacher of the Year. After retirement, she taught at LeMoyne College and the University of Rochester. Claire is a long-time member of the Association for Gravestone Studies and has served several terms on its Board of Trustees. She has also published a walking tour of the Liverpool Village Cemetery.
Dorianne Elitharp Gutierrez has been the Liverpool Village Historian since 1991. She speaks and writes about Liverpool history, conducts walking tours of the village and cemetery, and helps people learn more about their Liverpool roots.
